Grief, the media and funeral directors?
It was great to be able to present last week on behalf of the Australian Centre for Grief and Bereavement. The South Australian division of the Australian Funeral Directors’ Association provides an annual information workshop for third year journalism students (as well as post-graduate students) from the University of South Australia. There was a range of presenters giving an overview of the funeral industry, the role of the funeral director, as well as the roles of the State Coroner and Forensic Science SA.
I presented on “How Media Intrusion can Impact the Grieving Process”. Such an interesting topic to unpack, with discussions centred on unintended consequences and ethical implications.
It was a great morning at Alfred James Funerals. And the students left with a new perspective.
